Bought the paper yesterday and have to admit even without the so called `racist' link... which lets be honest I don't think there is no way anyone would have known Barkley had a bit of black in him... it came across as a massive attack on someone who... well... has done what exactly?? I was wondering if he had kidnapped and spit roasted Mackenzie's daughter or something?? Very very strange article.... almost like he would fit in well on here it was that deranged.

I know what you mean Hermit, the only reason I like the Guardian these days is that it continues to wind up the racist knuckle-draggers. Mind you, that's not too hard.

Re: Kelvin MacKenzie
The ironic thing about this is that if anyone's racist its those that are seeing the link between a gorilla and people of Nigerian descent

Re: Kelvin MacKenzie
How can it be deemed racist,he didn't know his nigerian background so its the mayor who connected his black grandfather to a gorilla .

I haven't bought the Sun in 25 years. I'm tempted to get it now though as I quite like the way they keep winding the work dodgers up. On one side there's a shit newspaper, on the other a city of scroungers who take offence at everything except themselves. On balance, you have to side with the paper.

Re: Kelvin MacKenzie
Everton have banned The Sun newspaper from their ground and training ground following controversy caused by Kelvin MacKenzie's column on midfielder Ross Barkley.

MacKenzie has now been suspended for the comments, amid calls from Liverpool Mayor Joe Anderson for him to be sacked. In the column the former editor likened Barkley to a gorilla. MacKenzie says he had no idea that the Everton player's grandfather was from Nigeria.
Yesterday Everton Football Club informed The Sun newspaper it was banned from Goodison Park, the USM Finch Farm training ground and all areas of the Club's operation.

Whilst we will not dignify any journalist with a response to appalling and indefensible allegations, the newspaper has to know that any attack on this City, either against a much respected community or individual, is not acceptable.

He knew what he was doing and so did the Sun's leadership. It's a calculation; let's test the water with controversy now that the milly dowler phone hacking scandal that sunk the NOTW is out of the way. The Sun doesn't even get stocked in Liverpool (and their journalists are banned from Anfield) so they have fuck all to lose there. Funny how he was on holiday before the story was even publushed.

Just seen a TV ad for "Gorilla Tape". One, it is BLACK. Two, all the people using it in their big expensive houses are WHITE. All of them. The CGI "gorilla" is "serving" them tape. Racist. I need a safe space after watching it.

As for this McKenzie "furore", look up the history of the Liverpool mayor and his shady (can I say that?) legal action over a personal "employment" case. You couldn't make it up.

The whole thing is just an assemblage of thundercunts having a pop at each other.

Re: Kelvin MacKenzie
It’s not really a massive stretch to figure out that journos and other media people sometimes say controversial things ON PURPOSE to provoke a reaction in the rest of the press and to raise their own profile. After all, this is how Katie Hopkins exists.

How many millions of people have now been reminded who Kelvin MacKenzie is? How will this have affected his own marketability in a world where controversial people such as George Galloway and Nigel Farage are currently presenting radio phone in shows?

This might even be specifically engineered to raise his media profile and earn him a move to a position in the USA. If News UK think he’s paid too much, then they could be in on the plan.

Re: Kelvin MacKenzie
To be honest you'd imagine all newspapers have people have some sort of ANTENNA in regards likening people to SIMIANS.
And if Kelvin Mackenzie submitted a column about Liverpool don't you think some alarm bells might go off and his sub-editor might think of giving it an extra going over?
Especially in the week of Hillsborough

Are there any other surprisingly mixed race players that the press should be aware of?

Re: Kelvin MacKenzie
The stupid thing is it went by an actual fucking editor who let it be published. And now they are suspending him for something that his company actually thought was ok to print!

Why on earth people buy these red tops I have no idea. And the fake outrage from everyone as if these papers dont print absolute bollocks everyday.
